Asking Pulse
Ask about your spending, compare months, or find a transaction. Start with what you want to know and the month you mean.
For Pulse Local 0.4.0

Start with one clear question
Try “How much did I spend on groceries last month?” You can follow up with “by merchant” to see which shops make up the total.
Here is an example using sample transactions. Your amounts will be different.
You
How much did I spend on groceries in August 2026?
SpendingGroceriesAugust 2026
You spent $456.33 on groceries in August 2026.

Costco Whse was the most within Groceries in August 2026 at $241.82, out of $456.33 across 3 merchants.
The labels above a spending answer show what Pulse counted. Check the month and category. Select a label to change it, or ask “explain” for more detail.
Things you can ask
See where your money went. “How much did I spend on groceries in August?”
Compare months. “Compare my spending in August and July.”
Check your budget. “How much is left in my grocery budget this month?”
Find purchases. “Show my Costco transactions in August.”
Understand a term. “What is a sinking fund?”
Where the answers come from
For supported questions about your money, Pulse calculates the answer from the transactions and balances you have added. It also has written explanations of budgeting terms and app features.
Each money question is read twice: once by Pulse's own rules and once by a second AI model on your machine. A figure is shown only when the two readings agree.
Other questions may be answered by AI running on your machine. These answers are labelled “answered by the model, check the figures”. Treat them as a starting point and check important details.
Your questions are not sent to an online AI service.
If Pulse does not understand
Name the month and use the category or merchant name you see in Transactions. Ask one thing at a time. If a follow-up goes off track, restate the full question.
If Pulse says “I am not sure which figure you mean, so I will not guess”, its two readings of your question disagreed. Ask again and name the merchant, category, account or month. This is the normal path, not an error. The suggested questions and the buttons under an answer are never held back this way.
If Pulse says it could not verify an answer, it has held the answer back because a check failed. You have not done anything wrong. You can check the transactions yourself or use Send feedback to report the question. You choose what to include.
What to keep in mind
Pulse can only use the information you have added. It cannot look up live prices or find transactions missing from your records. It helps you understand your money; decisions about it stay yours.
Chat works best in English. For an important amount, check the transactions and your bank statement. Read about accuracy and limits.
